Mount Pleasant is known for hip cafés, bustling sidewalks, boutique businesses, artists and a real sense of community, but some may not be aware of the community’s spook-tacular sensibilities.
For three years now, Mount Pleasant businesses have been going all out during the Halloween season to vie for the title of “Best Dressed Business.” The Mount Pleasant Business Improvement Area cooked up the idea in 2008 and it’s been growing in popularity ever since. Now in its fourth year, the Best Dressed Halloween Contest sees Mount Pleasant businesses developing elaborate and creative themes in the hopes of impressing (and scaring) customers and judges.
On Tuesday, October 30, a panel of talented, fun-lovin’ judges, ranging from bloggers to community members, will judge the businesses’ creations, so be sure to drop by your favourite Mount Pleasant store to see what they have created. Besides bragging rights, winners for the “Best Overall” and “Most Creative” categories will receive spooktacular prizes. Last year, 24 businesses participated, and this year’s contest will likely attract even more.
Although Rize is not entering the contest this year, we couldn’t help but join in the fun. Check out the plaza at the corner of Kingsway and Broadway to see some of our Halloween-themed decorations. For a preview, see some photos below.
